Little Sioux Wanderings Newsletter - Fall 2007 - Page 2
From the desk of the Director -

The summer camping season is drawing to a close, and it was one of the smoothest operating seasons we have had.

Bob & Rosie Hansen did a great job as campground hosts at Dog Creek. They kept things running smoothly and were there to assist the campers with their needs. This year we were very happy to add Bob & Vicki Rudden to our summer staff as campground hosts at Mill Creek. Their added presence at the park was highly praised on a user survey. We are glad to provide this service.

We are sad to note the death of a past campground host, Dale Mason. Dale and Shirley Mason served as hosts at Dog Creek for many years. Dale will be missed as a loyal supporter of the Conservation Board.

This summer has been one with very few incidents of vandalism and trouble in the parks. We attribute this to the attentiveness of our campground hosts and the exceptional service of our park rangers. It has been great to provide visitors with safe, clean and attractive parks.

A user survey of the campground has brought to our attention some needs that we hope to address. The electrical pedestals need to be upgraded to include 50 amp electrical service and internet capabilities. Playground equipment should be updated. We have noted a high demand for reservations at the camping cabins and are considering an additional 12 person cabin in the future.

We appreciate the public’s respect in following the rules and encourage your continued use of the parks!

Director

Meet Our Staff -

Julie Wingert has joined our staff as the new administrative assistant. She is the friendly face to greet you at the Prairie Heritage Center and the helpful voice as you call our office! Julie and her husband Dave live in Primghar. They have two sons, Kyle (age 19) and Ethan (age 16).

Julie is very excited about all of the people that she greets and works with at the center. The multiple challenges that this position brings keeps her days full and diverse. She has already learned much about the prairie and the history of the region and looks forward to sharing that knowledge with you!

Brian Schimmer, one of our park rangers, has been enrolled in 219th Law Enforcement Academy this fall. He begins his training next month and will be attending classes for 13 weeks. You will be seeing Brian back in the parks and campgrounds in January.

Ryan List and Nick Schmalen, our summer employees, have headed back to school. We appreciate their hard work this season. They accomplished many tasks and kept things lively around the shop. We wish them well on their future plans!
