Opportunities await at the Prairie Heritage Center!
Come and see us at the Prairie Heritage Center! Many events are scheduled to take place in the coming months! We are excited to be able to provide these opportunities for you to take part in!

The Pioneer Picnic, on August 30, is our annual fundraising event for the year. Hannibal and Hannah Waterman were the first settlers in O’Brien County. We have planned a picnic similar to those held by the early residents of the county. Join us for an evening of fun and relaxation as you see the newly completed exhibits.

Over 400 raptors a day pass over the Little Sioux River Valley in the fall. This area is an interior flyway for birds migrating south. Stop by the Hawk Watch on September 22 for more information.

The Historical Fall Fest always provides great entertainment for the whole family. For those of you who would like to view the pioneer cemetery, this is a fantastic opportunity to get there without having to walk! A horse-drawn wagon will be giving rides on the 1/2 mile loop. Combine that activity with games and crafts, and the day is sure to provide many opportunities for people with a variety of interests. This event is scheduled for September 29.

A very special event is planned for November 3. The Center will host an Artifacts Road Show. This event will be part of the state-wide Archaeology Month celebration. People interested in bringing items to this event are asked to pre-register by calling our office prior to October 30. Items will need to be brought to the center prior to the event. Jason Titcomb and other staff from Sanford Museum will be looking over the artifacts. On Saturday, November 3, a public program will be held at the Center at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend and learn more about the various artifacts which have been brought in as well as learning more information about how to correctly catalog artifacts that you may find. Plan to join us for this interesting presentation!
