| We are approaching the first anniversary of our grand opening. On November 28, the Prairie Heritage Center will have been open for one year. And what a whirlwind year it has been!
We surpassed our attendance goal! Over 14,000 people visited the Prairie Heritage Center in the first year!!! These visitors have come from 39 states, the District of Columbia and 8 foreign countries. Tourists from Denmark stopped in off the highway to see what “prairie” looked like! A little girl from Zimbabwe compared our “buffalo” to hers! (Bison vs. Water Buffalo) Many people have come back to visit and brought friends! (10% return visitors) We are so pleased to share your center with others!! We would not be able to operate so efficiently without the help of our faithful volunteers! These people help to staff the center on weekends. Our thanks go out to: Jon & Judy Bang, Peder & Wanda Buck, Mark & Shirley Butt, Margaret & Donald Dau, Aud De Graaf, Maxine Ewoldt, Theodore & Caroline Letzring, Lyle & Kathy Luedke, Dan Hale, Ken & Bev Orthmann, Doris Raush, Arlene Roemmich, Judy Schultz, Fred & Lucile Tanner, Dotty Trost, Beth Wilson & Paul Wittrock. If you would like to join this outstanding volunteer team, contact us. We would love to get you on board! The bison have been a HUGE draw. Watching the calves grow and change was a highlight for our return visitors. The bison will be leaving the prairie soon; but, don’t despair! They will return to our hillside again next spring. All of our exhibits have maintained the high quality that you expect. The Mill Creek exhibit is currently being installed. Don’t skip the conference room on your next visit. Temporary displays continue to change in that area. Help us celebrate our first year of operation with a “Welcome the New Year” party on Saturday, January 19, from 2:00-4:00. There will be “party” games for the whole family at this come-and-go event. If you are interested in a “birthday” present … check out our table display at the event with opportunities to help us with programming items. |
